“Church Clarity” or Biblical and Theological Clarity?

A new organization called “Church Clarity” has formed in recent days with the purported mission to pressure churches to be clear on their websites as to where they stand on LGBT issues. What are we to make of this organization?

After being called out on Twitter by Church Clarity to be an “advocate” for their organization, CBMW president Denny Burk responded with an article that exposes the fundamental flaws inherent to their approach. The bottom line of his article is this: It is not mere “clarity” that the church needs today. Instead, what she desperately needs is biblical and theological clarity. The following paragraph from Denny couldn’t be more clear:

“Pastors who have been evasive do need to repent, but they don’t need to follow the agenda of ‘Church Clarity’ to do that. They need to make plain their commitment to biblical orthodoxy. They need to make plain their church’s convictions in a doctrinal statement (I recommend the Nashville Statement). And they need to set forth a biblical and theological vision of human sexuality in the teaching ministry of the church. How an unorthodox, apostate group rates them on these efforts should be of no concern at all. How God rates them should be of utmost concern (1 Cor. 4:2-5).”
