I am pleased to announce that the board of CBMW has voted to appoint Colin Smothers to be Executive Director of CBMW. Smothers succeeds Grant Castleberry, who announced his resignation yesterday. CBMW’s board chairman Erik Thoennes writes, “Grant Castleberry has done an outstanding job as executive director, and I’m confident we will continue to be in good hands with Colin Smothers coming on board in that role.”
Smothers has previously served as CBMW’s director of finance and director of operations. But he comes to us now after having served for two years as Director of Communications in the office of the President of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Dr. Albert Mohler. In that role, Smothers was producer of Mohler’s two programs, The Briefing and Thinking in Public. Mohler recognized Smothers on the The Briefing this morning:
“I want to recognize Producer Colin Smothers… He’s going to be moving on to new responsibilities in coming days as Executive Director of The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood. That’s a most important organization, and we hope and pray him well as he takes up this new responsibility.”
Board member Wayne Grudem agrees, “I welcome Colin Smothers as the new Executive Director of CBMW. He has already served CBMW faithfully for several years. He brings a strong combination of academic, administrative, organizational, and relational skills to this new role, and I expect CBMW will continue to prosper under his leadership.”
Smothers graduated magna cum laude from Kansas State University in 2009. In 2013, he earned an M.Div. at Southern Seminary, where he is now a Ph.D. candidate in the biblical theology program under Dr. Jim Hamilton.
Colin is married to Elise, and they have four children: Lydia (5), Isaac (4), Laurel (2), and John (9 months). I have known Colin personally for about seven years, and I know him to be a faithful husband and father, a devoted churchman, and a good friend. He knows CBMW well and is uniquely suited to take the reins from Grant and to hit the ground running. In fact, he already is.
I could not be more pleased that Colin is coming on board to serve CBMW. Welcome, Colin!
