Owen Strachan

In addition to his CBMW Presidential work, Owen Strachan is Associate Professor of Christian Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. At MBTS, he teaches the full range of theology and supervises doctoral students while serving as the Director for the Center on Gospel & Culture.

Strachan is the author of a myriad of books (see below). He is a contributing writer for The Gospel Coalition and a fellow of the Center for Pastor-Theologians. He is a graduate of Bowdoin College (AB in History), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv in Biblical & Theological Studies), and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (PhD in Theological Studies).

During his PhD work, Strachan served as the Managing Director of the Carl F. H. Henry Institute for Theological Understanding and the Founding Associate Director of the Jonathan Edwards Center, both at TEDS. He has served as Editorial Assistant to SBTS President Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr. and Pastoral Intern at Capitol Hill Baptist Church under Dr. Mark Dever. Before coming to seminary, he was a Staff Intern in the Office of White House Liaison (U. S. Department of State) and an intern to the Commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor.

Strachan’s interests vary, but include theology, culture, history, politics, sexuality, and the pastorate. In 2015, Strachan will publish three works:The Colson Way (Thomas Nelson), the first major work on Chuck Colson since his death in 2012; Reawakening the Evangelical Mind(Zondervan) on the 1940s neo-evangelical intellectual renaissance led by Harold Ockenga, Billy Graham, and Carl Henry; and The Pastor as Public Theologian (Brazos) with Kevin Vanhoozer.

Strachan has written academic journal articles for Themelios, Trinity Journal, Fides et Historia, Journal for Biblical Manhood & Womanhood, Bulletin of Ecclesial Theology, and Theology for Ministry. He has authored popular articles for The Atlantic, First Things, The City, andChristianity Today, and writes for The American Spectator and his Patheos blog, Thoughtlife. He speaks regularly for churches and conferences, and has been profiled in World magazine as a young evangelical leader and has been profiled in Baptist Press for his pro-life work.
