Multnomah has just republished a condensed version of Wayne Grudem’s “Evangelical Feminism and Biblical Truth” under the title “Countering the Claims of Evangelical Feminism.” The new work includes some new material not in the 2004 work, chief of which is a specific interaction with the recent egalitarian work “Discovering Biblical Equality: Complementarity without Hierarchy.”

In 2004, Multnomah released a massive 856-page volume by Wayne Grudem in which the author answered more than 100 disputed questions in the gender debate.

Multnomah has just republished a condensed version of Evangelical Feminism and Biblical Truth under the title Countering the Claims of Evangelical Feminism. The new work includes some new material not in the 2004 work, chief of which is a specific interaction with the recent egalitarian work Discovering Biblical Equality: Complementarity without Hierarchy (IVP, 2004).

Grudem serves as research professor of Bible and Theology at Phoenix Seminary in Scottsdale, Ariz. He is the author of numerous books on theology and gender issues including the recent book Evangelical Feminism: A New Path to Liberalism?. He is a co-founder of The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) and presently serves on the ministry’s board.

The author begins Countering the Claims of Evanglical Feminism by casting a clear, biblical vision of manhood and womanhood, first with respect to creation and marriage and then with respect to the church. Then, in the nine remaining chapters, Grudem analyzes 40 key questions in the gender debate and tackles egalitarian claims from Scripture, theology, history and experience.

“Controversy is never easy,” Grudem writes in the preface, “but God in His grace often allows controversies to bring us to deeper understanding of His Word and deeper love and trust for Him.

“…One danger of controversy is that it can overwhelm us to the point we lose our joy…I hope this book will enable women to rejoice once again that God has made them women, and men to rejoice that God has made them men. I hope that we will be able to look at each other once again as brothers and sisters in God’s family and feel something of the joy that God felt just after he first created us male and female (in Genesis 1:31).”
