We hope that it has been helpful for you to consider how sin has marred manhood. We wanted to provide a one source location for you to go back and read any posts you might have missed in this series, re-read any posts that you thought were particularly striking, or direct those who follow your leadership to this as a collection of material to help sharpen and improve their vision of what true biblical manhood should look like.

  1. Manhood Marred: An Introduction by  Kyle Worley || “Sin has broken us. It has fractured who we are and how we love. Our hearts are bent and we are in need of being put back together, but it is a task that we can’t undertake in and of ourselves.  For the Christian, sin still has a lingering influence that taints many of our motives, actions, affections, and thoughts.”
  2. Manhood Marred: Overcoming Passivity by Lawrence Locklin || “We can overcome passivity in all its forms by taking God at his Word: true joy and fulfillment are to be found in the active, intentional leadership He calls us to in every area of our lives.”
  3. Manhood Marred: Is Male Supremacy Biblical? by Adam Griffin || “To believe men are superior requires simultaneously that women are deficient in some way. Male chauvinism can only exist within a point of view where genders are “sides” or teams engaged in a competition, or more accurately a battle, in which the victor can claim an inherent, inarguable upper hand.  In reality we are not on different ends of a battle field, men vs. women. Rather, we are fighting side by side in the same ancient battle against, ironically, selfishness.”
  4. Manhood Marred: The Peter Pan Syndrome by Jeff Medders || “The eradication of the Peter Pan Syndrome will only come as swiftly as a man exults in Jesus. Knowing the awesomeness of Jesus is napalm to Neverland. Light it up.Jesus is the true pattern of masculinity. Manhood is Christ-centered, rugged cross-bearing, and vacant tomb-empowering. There isn’t a whiff of Peter Panism in Christ. What we see from Jesus in the Gospels is radical servanthood, utter sacrifice, a love for God and neighbor that drives to action, and an unflinching commitment to the glory of God and the salvation of sinners. And this, the pattern of Jesus, is where God, by the Spirit, is growing us.”
  5. Manhood Marred: Why Machismo is Killing Us by Ricky Alcantar || “The sad truth is that sometimes in our churches machismo is painfully obvious but never confronted. Or more commonly, the attitude lurks just below the surface in our communities, families, and churches. I want to point out three symptoms of machismo that may be closer than you think and then one core problem that underlies these symptoms.”
  6. Manhood Marred: Trying to Escape by Matt Manry || “The main reason is because it is so easy to sit in complacency rather than press on to maturity. For me, I have the natural tendency to want to find the nearest exit door when facing difficult times in my life. Instead of stepping up and leading during times of adversity, I prefer to stay in place or retreat back to what makes me feel safe.”
  7. Manhood Marred: Mr. Independent? by Cole Feix || “Individualism is a charade.  There’s not a man alive who hasn’t wished to be a hero; it’s part of who we are.  The problem is that we’ve lost sight of what manhood really looks like.  God’s plan for manhood has become so perverted that we worship the qualities that are fleeting and ignore the ones that are eternal.  Individualism lies at the heart of this perversion.”
  8. Manhood Marred: Inglorious Sacrifice by Matthew Stewart || “Sacrifice seems admirable, even glorious, when it’s coupled with an intense battle sequence with thousands of men following us into battle, but it seems rather frightening when it means letting go of things we hold dear so that we can give our time and effort to things that seem trivial at the time, but make a massive difference in the long run.”
  9. Manhood Marred: The Curse of Cynicism and the Hope of the King by Greg Gibson || “This is what the cynic needs. Rest.  Restoration. Redemption.  Newness.  A King. When we realize and embrace Christ’s Kingship over our lives, then we come to understand that our lives are not our own.  We have been bought with a great price (1 Cor. 6:20).  When we realize this, our cynic minds become humble, gentle, tender, and hopeful minds. Cynic, I encourage you to trust in that truth.  Believe in that truth.  Hope in that truth. After all, to hope in the hope of this world is no hope at all.”
  10. Manhood Marred: Repenting from ‘biblical’ manhood by Kyle Worley ||”While we firmly believe that God has ordained complementarianism as the governing sexual and marital ethic of the Christian life, we acknowledge that a corrupt complementarianism and those false ways of living that some may have treacherously called ‘biblical’ manhood have led to the perversion of the wonderful truth that God has laid out for human flourishing in the home, in the church, and in the culture.”
