The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood is excited to announce three recent hires made in its operations team. The new personnel will support and extend the organization’s already broad influence.
These hires come at an important time for CBMW, as it seeks to capitalize on vast opportunities to influence the church and the culture with the Bible’s teaching on marriage and gender.
“Local churches across the world are partnering with CBMW, and we have more initiatives to launch than we have staff members to do them,” said Owen Strachan, president of CBMW. “We are flooded with ministry opportunities in a confused culture.”
According to Strachan, these various initiatives and opportunities present a welcome challenge for CBMW: “This is not a problem for us; it is a thrill,” he said.
Erik Thoennes, the board chairman for CBMW, described the staff additions as part of the organization’s commitment “to do things excellently, so that we can serve the church and our society with a compassionate and strong voice.”
Colin Smothers will play a significant role in CBMW’s pursuit of excellence as the new director of operations. Smothers is a doctoral student at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
“Colin Smothers will strengthen every facet of CBMW’s work,” Strachan said. “He is an emerging young leader with a very sharp mind and the ability to handle any challenge he encounters.”
Scott Corbin joins CBMW as assistant operations director, as well as assistant blog editor. Corbin is a student at Southern Seminary.
“Scott brings a lot of intellect, ingenuity, and enthusiasm to CBMW,” said Grant Castleberry, CBMW’s executive director. “He loves the Lord with his whole heart and is committed to helping us accomplish numerous projects and to putting the best possible content on our website. He is an important addition to CBMW.”
Also joining CBMW as an intern is James Forbis. He is a student at Southern Seminary.
“The sky’s the limit with what the Lord could use James to accomplish,” Castleberry said. “James will be assisting us with a number of tasks and projects, and we are very excited that he has decided to join us.”
The addition of Smothers, Corbin, and Forbis will bolster the structural support needed for CBMW to continue to address issues surrounding sexuality, marriage, and gender, and to do so for a broader audience.
“These staff additions only strengthen the excellent personnel God has called to an organization I believe in so strongly,” said Daniel L. Akin, a CBMW board member.
Beyond providing energy and structure that allows CBMW reach more people, these hires are part of part of the organization’s strategy to propel the cause of complementarianism forward in the service of churches and individuals around the world.
“Though we see much opposition to gospel ethics in our time, CBMW is not on its heels,” Strachan said. “We are not content to play defense. We are playing offense.”
