We are once again starting up our devotional series and there isn’t a better book to go through during our “Women in the Church” series than the book of Ephesians.  Paul, writing to the church in Ephesus, focused his letter on Christ, reconciliation, and unity among all nations to Christ and to the church. Along with the emphasis and focus on the work of Christ, Ephesians provides instructions for proper conduct in the church, the home, and the world.

Ephesians is a special book to me. Before I became a Christian, my understanding of the “gospel” was that I had to earn it to receive it. I thought that justification was by works alone through faith. I remember the first time I read Ephesians 2 with new eyes. God had saved me and as a new Christian I began to understand that though my trespasses and sins were great, God’s grace was greater. It was by grace I had been saved, through faith, and my only boast could ever be and will forever be Christ. This was a free gift to me and to you.

I’m only scratching the surface on the cosmic reality of Christ’s redemptive work.  Ephesians is rich and encouraging, yet challenging as we consider our walk. I don’t want to get ahead of myself. You can begin to prepare by reading the book this week in one sitting or a little each day, then join us each Thursday as we explore the book of Ephesians.
