The Council on Biblical Manhood & Womanhood is delighted to announce today that Professor Owen Strachan (pronounced: “Stran”) has accepted the position of the Executive Director of CBMW. Strachan, 31, succeeds Dr. Randy Stinson in this important role.

Dr. Russell Moore, Chairman of the Board of CBMW said: “Owen Strachan is a bright and energetic young thinker, brimming with wise ideas about the next stage of CBMW’s mission. I’m excited about the road-map he’s laid out for us and look forward to the future.”  Strachan is Assistant Professor of Christian Theology and Church History at Boyce College in Louisville, Kentucky. He holds a PhD in Theological Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, an MDiv in Biblical & Theological Studies from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and an AB in History from Bowdoin College. His dissertation at TEDS covered the neo-evangelical project led by Harold Ockenga, Carl F. H. Henry, and Billy Graham.

Strachan has published numerous articles, essays, and reviews on gender roles for publications like The Atlantic online, Christianity Today, The City, and the Journal for Biblical Manhood & Womanhood. He participated in a widely-listened to 2012 debate with Rachel Held Evans over egalitarianism on the UK radio show “Unbelievable.” In 2012, Strachan’s JBMW article on “Dad moms” led to media coverage from outlets like The Blaze, the Louisville Courier-Journal, and Christianity Today. Strachan is a young theologian who has spoken in a wide variety of academic and public venues, including the Family Research Council, the Veritas Forum, and the Evangelical Theological Society.

Wayne Grudem, Past President and Co-Founder of CBMW observes that “Owen Strachan brings a wealth of knowledge about theology and evangelical history to his new leadership role with CBMW.” According to Grudem, “Strachan is a wise and gifted communicator who seeks to honor Jesus Christ in all that he does. I expect that Dr. Strachan will be used by God to significantly increase the impact of the ministry of CBMW.”

The author of six books, Strachan is a blogger at the Patheos Evangelical Portal, a Contributing Writer for The Gospel Coalition, and a Fellow at the Society for the Advancement of Ecclesial Theology. Prior to taking a professorship at Boyce, he was the Managing Director of the Carl F. H. Henry Center for Theological Understanding at TEDS and the founding Associate Director of the Jonathan Edwards Center at TEDS. He trained for pastoral ministry at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D. C. He interned for the White House in the U. S. Department of State and has written for 9Marks Ministries.

Kevin DeYoung, noted author and pastor, commented “I am very happy for Owen and for CBMW. Owen is a good friend with a sharp mind and a visionary instinct. I’m excited to see how the important work of CBMW will flourish under his leadership.

From Maine, Strachan is married to Bethany and is the father of two children. He is a member of Kenwood Baptist Church. When not strolling around Louisville on family walks, he enjoys running, hip hop, and reading. He is writing a book on “Bold Faith” in the public square for Thomas Nelson (2013) and another on “The Pastor as Public Theologian” with Kevin Vanhoozer for Brazos Press (2014).
